Design philosophy & process

Good design isn't luck. It's a process.

Behind every effective website, brand and campaign is the same disciplined thinking: listen first, dare to be distinctive, and deliver with precision. My process was shaped by eight years in regulated healthcare design — where accuracy, accessibility and consistency aren't optional — and it works the same way for every business.

Design philosophy

Daring. Designing. Delivering.

Four principles behind every website, brand and campaign I design — the thinking that turns good-looking work into work that performs.

Chapter 01

Discovery

depends on the circumstances and needs

Every project starts with listening — your business, your customers, your competition. Research before pixels.

Chapter 02

Courage

lies somewhere between helplessness and madness

Safe design disappears. The brave choice — made with judgement — is what makes a brand memorable.

Chapter 03

Inspiration

a moment of glare in total darkness

Ideas arrive from everywhere — medical diagrams, packaging lines, gallery walls. I collect them so your project never starts from blank.

Chapter 04

Creativity

perception of things outside of accepted standards

Standards are the floor, not the ceiling. Accessible, compliant — and still unexpected.

What drives results

Five things every successful website gets right.

Design

Functional core with an artistic twist

Great web design balances usability with personality. Clear visual hierarchy and WCAG accessibility come first — then the artistic layer that makes your brand impossible to confuse with a template.

Online

The internet-based world we all live in

Your website is open 24/7 in every pocket. Responsive, fast-loading design isn't optional — it's where most of your customers will meet your business first.

Marketing

Advertising doesn't need to be expensive

Smart email campaigns, social media graphics and well-structured content often outperform paid ads. Design that converts is the cheapest marketing you'll ever buy.

Key words

Knowing what to write — and what not to

Effective copy isn't about stuffing keywords. It's structured content, clear headings and the language your customers actually use when searching for you.

Business idea

Visualisation and strategy

Design makes strategy visible. Infographics, pitch decks and brand systems that turn your business idea into something investors, partners and customers instantly understand.

How it works

A design process built in regulated healthcare environments.

Eight years designing for medical devices and NHS Supply Chain taught me accuracy, accessibility and version discipline. Your web design or branding project gets the same rigour — without the jargon.

FAQ

Questions about the design process.

Discovery usually takes a few days, first design concepts arrive within 1–2 weeks, and build times depend on scope — a typical website launches 3–4 weeks after the brief is agreed. You get a clear timeline in writing before anything starts.

You'll see structured concepts early in the Design stage, with two revision rounds included as standard. Feedback is collected in one place per round, so decisions are clear and the project keeps momentum.

You work directly with me — no account managers, no hand-offs. Progress updates come by email at each milestone, with video calls whenever a conversation is faster than typing. You always know exactly where the project stands.

At Discovery: a short brief and any existing brand materials. At Design: consolidated feedback per revision round. At Build: your final text and images (or I can help produce them). At Launch: an hour for your free training session.

You receive free training, organised files and everything needed to run the website yourself. Many clients then choose ad-hoc support or a monthly retainer for updates and new design work — but there's no obligation.

Of course — a leaflet, a landing page or a free website review is a great way to experience the process before committing to a bigger project. Many long-term clients started exactly that way.
